Coniferous Sawn Lumber & Timber Grades
General issues and classification principles applied when
classification in classes of lumber and timber is effected.

   I. General issues

1  Boards with length between 3 and 6 m are classified within the following quality classes :
2.  Boards with lengths under 3 m are classified within two classes :
  • SI   quality class according to at least class B quality
  • SII  quality class according to at least class D quality

  •
   II.  Classifying principles

Principle no. 1 - Boards classification is made according to defects presented on their whole and not according to properties of parts obtained by cutting the whole piece in parts.
Principle no.2 - Boards quality class establishment is made taking into account the aspect of  the weaker face and lateral side when the difference between the two faces and two lateral sides is not bigger than 1 quality class. In case the above mentioned difference is bigger the piece is classified within the class immediately superior to the weaker face or lateral side.
   III.  Knots

The sizes amount of all knots located on the same transversal line of a board should not surpass the size of the bigger transversal knot admitted at the one class.
   IV.  Other issues

Through clean surface is understood the board part without knots, plugged bark and sap rot.
