Cracks Classification

 

 
1. Types of cracks
heart crack frost crack drying crack
Radially crack of heartwood, starting from heart on a big length in comparison with timber piece length. Radially crack on timber piece length as result of frost. Radially oriented crack due to contraction by drying - as result of irregularities of contraction.
ring crack
Crack located between the anually rings of the wood.
2. After depth
shallow shake deep shake through shake
Shake with max. depth of 5 mm for timber pieces with thickness up to 50 mm and of max. 1/10 from timber piece thickness for pieces with width over 50 mm. Shake with depth over 5 mm for timber pieces with thickness up to 50 mm and over 1/10 from timber piece thickness for pieces with width over 50 mm.. Shake passing from a face to the other and from an edge to the other.
3. After position
face crack scale crack edge crack
Crack located on timber piece' s face. Crack located on timber piece' s face oriented after anually rings or after radius determining the wood detachment in scales. Crack located on the edge of timber piece.
head crack
Crack located on the head of timber pieces.
